Taking protein skimming to the next era with T-Ratz
At CM Aqua, we are proud to introduce the next era of large-scale protein skimming with the launch of our in-build T-Ratz Protein Skimmers. With a recent delivery for a major salmon RAS project in Japan, a new standard has been set for how dissolved organics are managed in modern recirculation systems.
Unlike traditional skimmers delivered as stand-alone units, T-Ratz is designed and built into the RAS layout from the very beginning. This approach simplifies transport and installation, ensures seamless hydraulic integration, and eliminates the need for additional pumping capacity.
For smaller system volumes below 700 m³/h, our well-known Ratz Protein Skimmers remain available and continue to deliver reliable performance.

A growing role for protein skimming in RAS
Across the aquaculture industry, the combination of protein skimming and ozone is gaining traction. This treatment strategy effectively suppresses levels of dissolved organics (BOD) thus;
- decreasing growth of heterotrophic bacteria
- reducing risk for of off flavour production assimilated to heterotrophic organisms
- improving conditions for nitrifying bacteria in the biofilter
This approach has already been proven at large-scale salmon RAS facilities in China, where operators have documented improved stability and overall system performance.
By reducing organic loads early in the treatment process, T-Ratz helps operators maintain a cleaner and more predictable biological environment.
