Njord Aquashipping orders advanced well-boats for improved fish welfare
Njord Aquashipping is commissioning the construction of two advanced well-boats to enhance fish welfare and environmental sustainability in aquaculture operations. Built by Aas Mek Verksted, the vessels are designed for transporting smolt and market salmon. They will feature freshwater delousing systems using self-produced freshwater and space for additional delousing equipment, setting a new standard for efficiency in the industry.
Aas Mek Verksted has partnered with CM Aqua Technologies for the filtration systems onboard. CM Aqua will provide HEX SANI series drum filters, which are designed to remove particles and sea lice from the water, ensuring a clean environment for the fish. The filters are engineered to withstand marine conditions and are easy to maintain, with optional features like a custom washing system and a “Drum Lift” mechanism for easy cleaning.

The AL-2 Belt filter, used to treat backwash water, will also be installed to capture sea lice and improve sludge removal, increasing the dry matter content of the collected sludge. This system ensures clean water is returned to the sea, supporting sustainable practices in aquaculture.
