CFLOW AS
Proud to be part of Cflow’s major Hybrid RAS delivery in Iceland
Together with Cflow, CM Aqua brings years of joint filter development to Salmon Garden, with a HEX solution tailored to the installation’s operational needs.
Cflow has chosen CM Aqua’s HEX filters for demanding projects before. For Salmon Garden, they came back with a new challenge: a land-based Hybrid RAS facility that called for a filter configuration shaped around the installation, including cleaning beyond the drum itself.
CM Aqua and Cflow developed the answer together. They combined automatic cleaning of the drum, sludge tray and tank with project-specific connections and a passive overflow bypass. This is what CM Aqua does well: take a proven product, listen closely to the customer and keep developing until the configuration fits the application.

PROJECT OVERVIEW
Customer Cflow AS
End user Samherji Fiskeldi
Location Salmon Garden, Iceland
Filter HEX X5-10TL, X24 series
Configuration Large HDPE tank; piped connections; 50 µm mesh; internal overflow bypass; integrated auto-wash
Delivery Planned for the second half of 2026
A new setting for a trusted partnership
Samherji Fiskeldi is developing Salmon Garden on Iceland’s Reykjanes peninsula as a land-based recirculating aquaculture facility. Cflow supplies the Hybrid RAS water treatment, and CM Aqua provides the drum filters. When all three phases are developed, the facility is planned for annual production of 36,000 tonnes.
The filter had to fit the wider water treatment system, from its piped inlet and outlet to the way it manages rising water levels. Cleaning required particular attention. Particles captured by the mesh can also collect in the sludge tray and inside the tank. The team wanted these areas addressed in the filter design itself.

One solution shaped around the installation
CM Aqua used the HEX X5-10TL as its starting point and configured a large HDPE tank with piped connections, 50 µm HP Filter panels, an internal overflow bypass and a specially designed auto-wash system. The features work together as one configuration for Salmon Garden’s installation.
For Salmon Garden, CM Aqua is supplying 22 identical filters based on this tailored design, giving Cflow a consistent configuration across the installation.
“We originally developed the drum filter auto-wash system for well boats, I am extremely happy to see we now transfer this to landbased installations, enabling safe cleaning of our equipment during operations.”

The detail that makes the difference
Automatic washing is a familiar feature of a drum filter. At Salmon Garden, CM Aqua extended the cleaning arrangement to the places around the drum where material can accumulate. The specially designed system washes the drum, sludge tray and internal tank surfaces at predefined intervals.
Nozzles rinse the drum, a separate arrangement cleans the sludge tray, and dedicated nozzles inside the tank rinse its internal surfaces. Pipes mounted on the outside supply the tank nozzles. CM Aqua has made a practical maintenance consideration part of the equipment’s own design.

The built-in tank wash captures the point of the collaboration: identify what the customer needs to manage in operation, then develop the filter so that it addresses the challenge.
Protection designed into the flow path
An internal overflow bypass provides an alternative flow path when water reaches the designed overflow level. Because it is built into the filter’s physical construction, the bypass does not depend on electrical power or active controls to function. It is another example of CM Aqua considering the filter’s role in the entire installation, alongside particle removal and cleaning.

A proven platform with room for new ideas
The Salmon Garden configuration builds on CM Aqua’s HEX X24 platform. The corrosion-resistant HDPE construction allows the team to adapt the tank’s geometry and connections. Different mesh choices and project-specific features can then be considered together with the equipment’s wider operating requirements. Behind this flexibility are core HEX features designed for filtration and practical maintenance:

THE HEX CONCEPT
HEX HP filter panel
The patented hexagonal support grid lets the panel flex without stressing individual mesh strands and supports high flow in a compact filtration area.
DDGW drive
The direct-driven gear wheel system uses non-metallic wheels and requires no lubrication of the gear wheels.
X24 click system
Filter panels can be replaced without tools, simplifying routine panel changes.
Your challenge, not a catalogue number
Salmon Garden shows the practical value of working with CM Aqua. You can bring the full operating challenge, not just a target flow and mesh size, and have the HEX configuration developed around it. Connections, water conditions, cleaning access and passive safeguards are considered alongside particle removal. The proven platform provides the starting point; CM Aqua’s specialists work with you on the parts that must be different for your installation.
The aim is a filter specified with your wider system and the people who will operate it in mind. Tell us what you need it to do, and let’s work through the right solution together.
